Waspheart, praying as she is wont to do.

Backgrounds are the next thing I want to focus on improving - or, well, actually doing at all, to be more accurate - and this popped into my head. Plain, grassy fields aren't too intimidating, so it's something to ease me in.

Not entirely pleased with it, but much happier than I was for the first 90% of working on it. The beginning was really rough, and I started to feel really defeated by the sky to the point that I almost scrapped the whole piece. But I threw more colors around and added an overlay (which hopefully isn't too harsh) and... Well, it's a start to drawing backgrounds that I'm not disappointed with - which was really all I wanted to being with.

This really looks amazing! I love the lighting and how you shaded the face! Really fantastic work! Really adoring your drawing style. 
Backgrounds are hard, i rarley ever find myself happy with them. The clouds looks beautiful and I love the colors! For the most part the hills look good, you created good form with them. :) lighting is fine and textures look alright. What i think would really help would be a bit of atmospheric perspective. Making the further hills duller, less saturated, less contrasting etc. that will help add depth. 
Ignore the larger image to the right, i found a quick little tutorial on what I'm talking about.  Red Line1 by Denece-the-sylcoe It's also a grassy field so it should help.
